I can't believe I had my camera

I'll start by making a long story short and just say that it was only through a strange set of circumstances that I had my camera with me today. Also another circumstance that we had a fire drill at the office and so everyone headed outside. There, sitting on a wire was a red-tailed hawk. I went to the car to get my gear and change lenses. When I walked back, he was on the ground. It looked like he had pounced on a mouse. After a few moments, he flew up to a gas pipeline marker. I was able to capture his approach.
It's not quite as majestic as landing on an old tree limb, but it's a good shot anyway.
Then he spotted another mouse or something and flew down to pounce on it. I was able to capture his departure.

After several minutes on the ground stomping on whatever it was he caught, I moved the side a little to get a better angle. He tolerated my movement for a moment and then took off.
We have a walking path at our facility. He flew along it just inches above the ground but never touching it. Below you can see him just over the walking path with his shadow just below.
How amazing is that! I know, I take a lot of pleasure in the simplest things in nature. Watching a bird fly or baby calf follow his momma around. This is just another one that was the highlight of my day. Learn to enjoy the simple things. Life is too dang short!
